PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Greetings to all. Honorable Ambassador Del Rosario, Consul General Gregorio, Dr. Gloria Maglacas, Ms. Barbara Blakeney (ANA president), Ms. Seny Lipat PNAA president, Ms. Lorna Harris, National Black Nurses Association, Ms, Jillian Inouye of the Asian Pacific Islander Nurses Association, delegates and their families, our legislators, our sponsors, distinguest guest, ladies and gentlemen. It is indeed a great honor to welcome you all. Aloha!

the Philippine Nurses Association of Hawaii is excited and honored to host the 25th National Convention of the PNAA, Inc. the PNA Hawaii was incepted on the year 2000, with the support of the officers and members of PNA Hawaii, encouragement of the PNAA president, then Pete Calixto and Linda Ascio, our Western Region Liaison Officer, I bid for this convention at the PNAA National Convention in Chicago in 2001 and here we are.

The memorable event's theme is "reflection of the past 25 years and the vision for the future". It is then fitting and proper to honor our past presidents of this association and also the past presidents of all the PNA chapter. The strength and success of PNA America is the culmination of the legacy brought in by each and every PNAA past presidents. The legacy of this association was dissiminated, shared, grew and flourished instead of being protected and isolated otherwise it had weaken its strenght and die.

The Officers of the PNAA to be inducted tonight are the visions of tomorrow. They are the leaders with the guidance of our presidents to lead the nursing community of Philippine Ancestry to move forward, carry and focus on our mission, values and goals. We are represented in Washington nationally, internationally and the chapter leaders represent PNA locally. Nurses are faced with adaptation to changes of time and environment, continously changing paradigm of healthcare and issues that greatly impact the nurse's role in the community. We are faced with the Nursing shortage, end of life, bioterrorism, mass casualty incidents, stafing ratio and nurse's at workplace and others. We are faced with not only the nursing shortage but also the generation gap of the nurses left at the workplace. I am sure the older nurses at work can identify this, but we have the responsibility to groom them for they are the future leaders of the nursing community and will be taking care of us in our sunset years. With the nursing shortage, how can we handdle mass casualty incidents and bioterrorism? The issue of end of life affects the ethics and morals of each nurses. I am sure we will move forward to face and stand together in unity with American Nurses Association, all the National Coalition of Ethic Minority nurses association and other healthcare organization to have ONE VOICE, ONE CHOICE to face at these compelling issues.

I like to thank the following for a successful 25th PNAA National Convention: PNA America convention planning committees under the leadership of Seny Lipat, our overall chair, The energetic Rey Rivera and Lourdes Nisperos, all the dynamic speakers, Linda Ascio, Clarita Miraflor, and Pete Calixto, who made a multiple trips to Hawaii and guided us. Mila Velasquez, who volunteered helped by phone, PNA Hawaii planning committees and PNA Hawaii Auxiliary group for their hard work and commitment. I also like to acknowledge our guests from the mainland and from the Philippines, the Hawaii Filipino Community, all the corporate and individual sponsor for their support, to Representative Jun Abinsay, Senator Ron Menor and Consul General Gregorio who gave encouragement and help us during the planning stages.

Finally, my gratitude goes to my family who always supported me in my endeavors, especially to my Ron, my husband who always accompanied me at the conventions and most of the meetings.

Thank you all for being here. See you in Greater Kansas City in 2005.

Sincerely,

TINA R. SALVADOR
President 2000-2004

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

     Welcome to the Aloha State!

It gives me the greatest pleasure to extend my greetings to everyone who has gathered here to attend the Gala Night and Induction of the PNAA 2004-2006 Executive Board being held during the 25th Annual National Convention of the Philippine Nurses Association of America, Inc.

Our Silver Jubilee celebration's theme "PNAA: Reflections for the Past 25 years and Vision for the Future" astutely allow us to review our accomplishments which will greatly assist us in determining to what direction will PNAA, Inc. is headed in the next 25 years, for its quest of never ending tradition of excellence.

In July 2002, when we were in the greater City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia, everyone agreed with me that PNAA members make things happen!!!!!. This is evident with the impressive achievements of the PNAA since 1979.

When PNAA leaders and members tell about PNAA, people forget; when PNAA show them what PNAA does, people remember; but when every member is encouraged to get involved, they uinderstand better what PNAA is all about. I urge every Philippine-American Nurse to please get actively involved!.

I am greatly honored and genuinely appreciative for the opportunity to serve you as the President for the past two years. My tenure has been most gratifying professionally and satisfying personally. My sincere belief is that we are highly motivated and dedicated individuals who are committed to the premise that support for the Philippine-American Nurse can be acccomplished by joint endeavor of professionals and colaborative efforts with other professionals organization.

My heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Board, all 33 Chapter Presidents and respective members and Committee Chairs and members for your invaluable support and cooperation for the past two years. I salute our Convention Chapter Host-PNA Hawaii for accepting and providing us a very productive and successful 5-day convention. With our Synergistic efforts, I believed that we were able to strengthen the PNAA's future through leadership, professionalism and cultural empowerment.

My sincerest congratulations and profound support to the incoming 2004-2006 officers, and to all our benefactors, exhibitors, families and friends, thank you very much for your generosity and support.

MAHALO!
